On behalf of the Organising Committee, I am pleased to invite you to the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) Pathology Research and Development Congress (PathReD) 2015, which will be held from the 15 to 16 April 2015 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The PathReD Congress 2015 is the first event of its kind that the NHLS has ever organised to share and display the wealth of research conducted by NHLS researchers across all the nine provinces of South Africa and offer developmental programmes for young and emerging researchers across the organisation. The event will include the diverse NHLS research scientists and healthcare professionals across South Africa working in different pathology disciplines and other health science research initiatives. NHLS is the leading diagnostic pathology laboratory service in South Africa (and on the African continent) and its laboratories are spread across all the nine provinces. It serves as the main diagnostic laboratory service for the South African public healthcare sector. It works in close partnership with the health science faculties of medical universities and universities of technology.
Having had the first NHLS Research Summit in 2013 that aimed at strengthening research and development, the PathReD 2015 Congress will serve as a continuation of the “Paving the Way” theme. A review of progress and implementation of strategies discussed during the 2013 Research Summit will be shared at this platform. Through the PathReD 2015 Congress, the NHLS aims commence the process of promoting collaborative initiations across provinces and centres, while attracting funding through the demonstration of research activities taking place within the organisation. The Research Congress will also provide a platform further effect the recommendations of the summit, which will lead sustainable research initiatives and promote the research capabilities already available.
The PathReD 2015 Congress offers an opportunity for presentations across all pathology disciplines including Anatomical Pathology, Chemical Pathology, Haematology, and Human Genetics, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Medical Virology and related public health and epidemiology focus areas. In addition, the Congress will:
- present the NHLS Research Strategy and showcase research activities within the organisation
- highlight progress and initiatives effected following the NHLS Research Summit 2013 recommendations
- spear-head collaboration, bridge regional gaps through internal networking and support research development
- promote overall support for research within the organisation and connect with partners and collaborators with the aim of fundraising
- establish the Research Development and Grants Office brand within NHLS and partners
- engender loyalty and pride in the NHLS role as a research organization
It would be greatly appreciated if you would consider supporting this initiative. The Congress provides the opportunity for companies and organizations to showcase their products and new technologies on the exhibition platform. The PathReD 2015 Congress promises to be a unique and exciting event that will grab the attention of all researchers nationally and commercial stakeholders. We look forward to extensive participation from all companies and organizations that have engaged with the NHLS in the pursuit of the highest level of research and technology advancement.
We look forward to your support and involvement.
