Mr Michael Shingange
Mr Mike Shingange, the first Deputy President of the National Health Education & Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU). He joined the union as a shop steward in 1995. In the same year, he was elected chairperson of Goya branch, a position he held until he was transferred to Petersburg branch for Public health. From 1999 – 2001, he served as secretary of the Groothoek Hospital branch, he was then elected chairperson and served until 2003. In 2004 Mr Shingange joined the Vanwelden Hospital where he was made the acting secretary, then chairperson. He served at this branch until 2006, when he was elected the regional deputy chairperson of the Lowveld region.
In 2008, he was elected provincial deputy chairperson of Limpopo. In 2001 he was elected to serve as the provincial chairperson. At NEHAWU’s Special national Congress in June 2004 he was elected as the first deputy president.
During his tenure as Limpopo’s provincial chairperson, he served on a number of bargaining chambers mostly the General public Service Sectorial Bargaining Council, where he is the vice chairperson of labour/ He was also a Provincial Elections Coordinator (PEC) member of the South African Communist Party (SACP) between 2011 and 2012 during the rebuilding process. He joined the NHLS board as from February 2015 representing the organised labour.
