Prof Haroon Saloojee
Prof Haroon Saloojee, MB BCh, MSc (Med), FCPaed (SA), is a full time professor and head of the Division of Community Paediatrics at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and a unit head at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. He has been a National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) Board member since September 2015.He has a range of research and academic interests including childhood malnutrition; neonatal care; medical education and health system organisation.
Prof Saloojee is the current president of the South African Paediatric Association. He has previously served as the president of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa. He is a Senate member of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, and treasurer of the South African Child Health Priorities Association. He is also a member of the University of the Witwatersrand’s Senate. He serves on the board of the Soul City Institute and the Starfish Greathearts Foundation.
Prof Saloojee is a member of ministerial committees on child mortality and morbidity and immunisation, serves on various World Health Organisation (WHO) technical and advisory committees, and also on several Data and Safety Monitoring Boards, including ones sponsored by WHO and the National Institutes of Health.
